Material Deformation
To reduce carbon emissions and boost fuel economy, the automotive sector is constantly searching for new ways to reduce vehicle weight, while maintaining vehicle safety and durability. Numerical simulations are a key tool for this type of research as they can replace time-consuming physical experiments.
Modelling deformation (in car production as well as during accidents) can be modelled by solving complex sets of differential equations governing the rates of changes due to the applied forces.
However, even todays high performance computers struggle to accurately model a full vehicle at the desired accuracy.
PASQAL and BMW are testing PASQAL’s proprietary quantum DQC family of algorithms.
PASQAL’s DQC algorithms promise to solve complex differential equations more accurately by applying quantum neural networks implemented on PASQAL’s neutral atom quantum processors.
